Responding to the Atheist

In light of some of our people getting hammered for what they believe in their classes I thought this might encourage you. Do not be intimidated.

Just ask questions.

- Who am I?

- Where did I come from?

- What is wrong with the world?

- How do we fix it?

So you want me to believe:

1. order came from disorder

Somehow the molecules of the universe aligned themselves in a productive manner without the aid of any type of intelligence.

- yeah because that happens, like when I used to throw firecrackers at my toys. I distinctly remember something useful always came out of it instead of useless piles of trash.

2. life came from non-life

Somehow an unfeeling entity became a living thing.

- oh sure, we see that all the time, like when my tube of toothpaste started crawling across the counter yesterday. Hasn't that happened to you?

3. intelligence came from non-intelligence

Somehow an object that had no brain got smart.

- like a rock that ponders…

4. reason came from non-reason

Some type of unthinking thing began to deduce logical conclusions.

- right, like when my chair calculated that my booty was too hefty for its little legs to sustain

5. morality came from amorality

That which had no morals decided that it needed to have some morals.

- oh sure, like those dogs on the news the other day who realized it was indecent to run around all naked, like they do

Remember secular culture says:

• You are a random accident of unguided cosmic forces.
• You are a collection of molecules that somehow managed to cluster together is a useful way.
• “Love” is itself nothing more than random chemical reactions in your brain that are within you for the purpose of prolonging the species.
• Your conscience is nothing more than reinforced behavioral patterns ingrained in you by parents and culture and may or may not be a good thing.
• You are of no more real importance than the ape at the zoo.Of course the difference is that you can fight back and cause real damage if you don't like how you are treated, unlike the poor ape.
• You are a magnificent animal - but an animal nonetheless.

Remember what God says:

> We alone are made in His image!

Genesis 1:26-27 & 9:6

> He made a unique garden for man to reside in and to be near to God.

Genesis 2:8

> He made a unique partner for man.

Genesis 2:18

> He distinctively set apart man from the animals in the story of the creation of Eve.

Genesis 2:18-22

> God gave man power and dignity that is beneath God alone!

Genesis 1, 2 & Psalm 8

> Mankind was given charge over the created, physical world - “to subdue it.”

Genesis 1:28-29

> And unto mankind and mankind alone was the plan of salvation extended.

       John 3:16

Genesis 3:15 begins the scarlet thread woven throughout Scripture. We are surrounded by intimidators, those who wish for us to cower in fear at their all knowing feet. But we know the all-knowing God, so we need not fear their intimidation or be in dread of their threats but rather rejoice that we have been counted worthy to be reviled for simply saying the same thing as the LORD in His Word.
